The flowing form of this vase depicts a majestic dragon and the whirlpools that surround it. The molding of porcelain is more delicate than ceramics and requires more attention. Distortion in potter’s wheel-thrown molding will cause firing defects, and contamination with iron powder or other contaminants cannot be overlooked. Despite the large size of this piece, it has uniform curves and one can understand the skill of the wheel-thrown craftsman. The pair of underglazes painted dragons are delicately painted, with each of their scales and beards expressed in shades of gray. The whirlpools and clouds surrounding the dragons are showed in the traditional colors of a paints, which have been handed down from generation to generation. The painting process must be calculated from the beginning, as the underglaze and overglaze painting, known as underglaze and overglaze painting, respectively, are separate processes. Only Unsen, which handles molding, underglaze painting, and overglaze painting all at once, is able to produce pieces in which everything is in harmony.
